A dental implant is a small titanium or zirconia post placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root. It can support a crown, bridge, or full-arch restoration. Implants may be used to replace a single missing tooth, several teeth, or most of the teeth in one jaw.

Alp Medical Travel is a medical tourism facilitator, not a dental clinic. Examinations, diagnoses, treatment recommendations and surgical procedures are carried out by our contracted dental clinics and dentists in Türkiye. Our role is to coordinate your treatment journey and communication with the treating clinic.

What Types of Implant Treatment Are Available?

Depending on how many teeth need replacing and the condition of your jawbone, the dentist may discuss a few different approaches:

  • Single implants – used to replace one missing tooth without relying on the neighbouring teeth for support.
  • Multiple implants – for replacing several teeth, sometimes supporting a bridge rather than needing one implant per tooth.
  • Full-arch treatment, often referred to as All-on-4 or All-on-6 – a set number of implants placed to support a complete arch of replacement teeth, used when most or all of the natural teeth in a jaw are missing or beyond saving.

Titanium is the most established implant material, with a long track record. Zirconia is a newer, metal-free alternative that some patients prefer, though it isn't suitable for every case. The treating dentist will recommend an approach after examining your teeth, gums, and jawbone, usually with the help of a 3D scan. Your Alp Medical Travel coordinator will help you understand what's proposed and organise the appointments around it.

What Can Implants Address?

Implants are generally considered for teeth that are missing, badly damaged, or that can't reasonably be saved with a filling, crown, or root canal. They're also an option for people currently wearing dentures or a bridge who'd prefer a fixed alternative.

Outcomes depend heavily on individual factors — the quality and quantity of the jawbone, gum health, how well the case is planned, and how it's cared for afterwards. Your dentist will talk you through what's realistic for your own situation rather than a general timeline that applies to everyone.

Is Implant Treatment Right for Everyone?

Not automatically, and this is why implant cases usually start with a scan rather than a quote. Enough healthy bone is needed to support an implant; if there isn't enough, a bone graft may be recommended first, which adds time to the overall treatment. Active gum disease is usually treated before implant surgery goes ahead.

Certain health conditions and habits can also affect healing and long-term success, including things like uncontrolled diabetes, some medications, and smoking. None of this necessarily rules implants out, but it's something the dentist needs to know about when planning your treatment.

How Is Implant Treatment Done?

Implant placement is a surgical procedure, usually carried out under local anaesthetic. A small titanium or zirconia post is placed into the jawbone, and depending on the case, a temporary tooth or bridge may be fitted on the same day.

The implant then needs time to fuse with the surrounding bone — a process called osseointegration — which usually takes several months. Implant treatment therefore often involves two planned trips to Türkiye: one for implant placement and another after healing, when the permanent crown or bridge is fitted. Bone grafting or other additional procedures may change this timeline.

In suitable full-arch cases, a temporary bridge may be fitted on the day of surgery, followed by the final bridge after the implants have healed. The treating dentist will confirm whether immediate temporary teeth are appropriate for your case.

Some swelling, bruising, or discomfort in the days after surgery is common. Increasing pain, heavy bleeding, or signs of infection are not, and should be reported to the treating clinic straight away.

What Is the Recovery Time?

Most people take it easy for a few days after surgery, sticking to softer foods and avoiding strenuous activity while the area settles. Swelling or bruising usually improves within a week or two.

The bigger timeline to plan around is the gap between your visits: the implant needs several months to integrate with the bone before the permanent restoration can go ahead. Your coordinator will help you plan this around your treatment schedule.

Aftercare

The clinic will give you aftercare instructions specific to your surgery before you leave Türkiye. General good practice in the weeks that follow tends to include:

  • Keeping the surgical area clean, following the specific instructions given by your dentist
  • Avoiding smoking, which can interfere with healing
  • Sticking to softer foods for a period while the area heals
  • Attending any follow-up appointments recommended, including scans to check healing progress

Once healing is complete, daily cleaning around the implants and regular professional maintenance remain important for their long-term health.

Once you’re home, your Alp Medical Travel coordinator remains your point of contact and can help arrange communication with the treating clinic if you have concerns between visits or after your treatment is completed.

How Alp Medical Travel Supports Your Dental Journey

You will have one named coordinator from your first enquiry through your return home. With your consent, we arrange the preliminary review of your case by a partner dental clinic and coordinate:

  • Your written treatment proposal and itemised quotation
  • Clinic appointments and treatment schedule
  • Accommodation and transfers, where requested
  • Language and communication support during your stay
  • Communication with the treating clinic after you return home

This means you know who to contact at each stage without having to explain your case again to a new person.

How Much Do Implants Cost in Turkey?

Cost depends on the number of implants, whether a bone graft is needed, the type of restoration — a single crown, a bridge, or a full arch — and the material chosen. Following a preliminary review, the partner dental clinic will prepare the proposed treatment and dental costs, and Alp Medical Travel will coordinate an itemised quotation covering both visits, along with any included travel-support services. The final treatment plan and price are confirmed after your clinical examination and scan in Türkiye.
