If you have teeth that are damaged and you are unhappy with how they look, then dental crowns might be the best option available for you. The treatment involves putting a permanent cap over the tooth.

Do you need a dental crown?

At Alp Medical Dental, our team will assess your mouth, take a history from you and recommend treatment based on the findings. One of our dentists may recommend crown(s) if you suffer from the following:

  • Week teeth

The main benefit of a crown in this instance is to prevent and protect further damage from occurring to the tooth

  • Tooth decay

If you are suffering from bad tooth decay and a filling will not solve the issue, then a crown might be the best option available to prevent further damage

  • Misshapen teeth

If your teeth are misshapen or discoloured, then a crown can significantly improve your smile.

How is it done?

During your first appointment at Alp Medical Dental, the dentist will examine your mouth and prepare the tooth or teeth so that it is ready for the next step in the process. An impression will then be made and sent off to our lab to be custom-made to fit your mouth. The crown(s) will also be colour matched.

At your next appointment at the clinic, the new crown(s) will be fixed into place. The dentist will check carefully to make sure that you are comfortable and that the crown(s) fit correctly in your mouth.

What materials are available for the crown?

At Alp Medical Dental, we have a variety of different crowns available to our clients. Depending on your budget and the look that you want to achieve, the dentist will be able to make recommendations. It is very easy to get bogged down in jargon when it comes to which crowns to choose – at Alp Medical Dental, we strive to keep our patients informed. If there is a type of crown that appeals more to you, our team will be able to provide you with further information on the options that are available.

Porcelain

At Alp Medical Dental, we would recommend porcelain crowns to our clients. They help our clients achieve a natural-looking smile and they avoid the black gum line that is visible with other crowns. The main benefit of our porcelain crowns is that the strength is similar to that of natural teeth. We are so confident in the durability of our crowns, that we are proud to offer a 5-year guarantee.

Ceramic

Our ceramic (zirconia) crowns are strong and durable, therefore they are a good option to fit in the back of the mouth. One of the drawbacks of ceramic teeth is that they are opaque, which means they look less natural than their porcelain counterparts. Therefore, they are an option that your dentist would recommend if you were looking to have fitted in the back of your mouth where they are less visible.

Aftercare

After having your crown(s) fitted, you may feel heightened sensitivity and soreness. These side effects should reduce after a few days and your dentist will be on hand to advise you on what to expect.

How much does it cost?
